Severely Handicapped Special education teacher are the specialist who deals with kids deficit in one or more areas of functioning that significantly limits an individual’s performance of their major life activities. These severely disabilities could be in one or more area Cognition, Communication, Mobility/Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Self-Help Skills etc. The Severely Handicapped specialist works with students with severe disabilities or multiple disabilities and they may be highly diverse in both their abilities and disabilities.

Severely Handicap Specialist Job Description
Severely Handicapped Special Education teacher plans programs of study and unit/weekly/daily lessons that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students as mapped out in their Individualized Education Plan. They create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students and employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved, this specialist develops and implements students’ Individual Education Plans and hold needed annual, re-evaluations, and requested IEP meetings. They assist in helping students become independent with their self-help needs (bathroom, eating, dressing, etc.) The specialist needs to Utilize diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic and leadership standards. They make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and provide time in the evening, by phone, for questions and concerns that students and/or parents may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day
